[THE PORTLAND PLAYLIST] KANYE WEST/KANYE WEST
You've physically had to be hibernating in a cave in the most secluded spot in the world this winter if Mr. West's "Kanye approved" actions, reactions & releases somehow did not make its way onto your social media outlets. For either you accept Kanye as your life and savior, respecting him as the higher power of guidance and understanding, whether you are a fashion guru keeping themselves in anything trend or even just a Twitter entrepreneur who happens to have been following him since day one. This intellectual "gospel" (and I'll get to the quotations in just a moment) writing, new father of two, has been grabbing our attention from taxi rides with the homies, after-work-happy-Instagram-hour with coworkers to your local fashion blogs, zines, and TMZ styled news.
His recent iconic pleas for the world to clear his 53 million dollar debt and even controversial clapback tweets with his past lovers and their lovers that scaled harsh blows, screams Kanye "Kardashian" West. For not being surprised by making his annual Taylor Swifthorrific public shaming, Kanye channels some much anticipated "KIMYE" points of view with some Usher "Truth Hurts" statements towards other stars; we're now grasping the fact that Mr. West is taking tips and tricks from his wife and baby mama, Kim Kardashian. Kim sanctions in the social controversy by giving us a subliminal selfie, with the woman Kanye once loved, hated, and now who I thought despised, after the recent Twitter beef.
For All things Ye, this is nothing short of Kanye. So if you're done hugging your family and friends, who have been worried to death about your whereabouts, or maybe finally paying that late internet bill, here's a recap of the "38-8" year-old's emotional draining month.
A LIVE VIEW OF A THRIVING ETSY ACCOUNT
Kanye graciously blessed Madison Square Garden, friends, family and the world with his third collection of dripped "Walking Dead" zombie couture; YEEZUS season 3. With his feud with Nike still boiling, it was X Adidas that filled Kanye's head with more of his own creations and over 1000 models with bubblegum superstar throw-back sneakers, 950s and 350s Yeezy sole-breakers. Models stood directed on tarps, blocks and floors as monotoned faces of realism, art and struggle, with a few even raising their hands and fist, signaling the recent ongoing events with one of the hardest collaborations America can't seem to let go, "ARMED FORCES X BLACK LIVES."
With Anna W. sitting in club seats, the bleachers were packed with #Mensfashionreview stylists, Fuccboi enthusiasts, North Kardashian-West, 50 Cent, Jaden Smith wanna's & Instagram lifers. Even Lamar made a cameo tailing behind his main squeeze, ex lover & forever friend Khloe K, as they & the narcissistic, powerful yet beautiful socialist family Mr. West married into, did Justice in YEEZY X BALMAIN. Dripping in lace beading and staying classic with vanilla bean & Iphone Rose Gold colored fur, sitting "basketball wife" style, they completed what seems to be the basis of a loving family's home-styled backyard BBQ extravaganza.
But for Kanye, this wasn't just any hard to comprehend fashion show production rehearsal of his etsy account, at this particular BBQ, there was West, only pretending to be Kanye, who's obviously Kanye's biggest fan, as he hopped, paraded, and lip synced every verse at Kanye's most perfect-pitched freestyle only to then scream that his 7th bible can be purchased on Tidal.
THE LIFE OF PABLO
"KANYE KARDASHIAN WEST"-me
To make things more Kanye, you can only get the album through TIDAL, which his televised partner & crime & long term homie, JAY-Z owns. The subscription music streaming website & app is filled with their gang's new releases, videos, and projects. As it hits #1 charts in app stores, it wasn't a surprise that releasing this album would not only be a struggle, but with some major baggage, some say it's trashy, but we say #Pablo. For TLOP being the third and hopefully final title, this 18-track project was granted first with the name SWISH then WAVES. For thinking he was going Beyonce with a self-titled album and surprise drop, the world thought WAVES would be the album's title, not only due to the picture Kanye posted via Twitter of said title & tracklist, but after Kylie Jenner signed the paper stating her presence. The WAVES-titled paper quickly turned into a hurricane of signatures and collection of the featured artists & people that helped tie TLOP together.
For not being like any of the other 6 sanctified albums that collectively tell a certain story within a story, his new life with kids, wife, and collection clearly shows to me what sounds like a rushed mixtape, without the mixtape. With features from Future, Rihanna, Chris Brown, & many more, it's clear what the only thing that makes this garageband-styled production cohesive. But with the new Kimye-feeling lyrics and songs like, "I LOVE KANYE", where with no beat, Kanye explains how he truly see Kanye. With a child yelling about how she wants the lord in her life, the "gospel" part of this album is always short-lived. TLOP goes back & forth from loving the Lord Jesus Christ, to wishing his male parts were a GOPRO.
To me, it's nowhere near an album for the higher power that's usually associated with the word "gospel," but moreso, him rapping sanctified poetic gestures towards his faith. For songs like ULTRABEAM & LOW LIGHTS, to titles like FATHER STRETCH MY HANDS PT. 1, most of the exterior looks of something you can put in the hands of the man upstairs. But with Rihanna slanting her words, references in FAMOUS, FEEDBACK & HiGHLIGHTS directly attacking Taylor S., Blac Chyna & Rob Kardashian, and the ex of Kim K, Ray J, it can be very controversial. But that's what we've wanted right? Kanye West has of course made sly attacks & subliminal lyrics to get you going. But what does any new father lack? Time! For not beating around the bush, the genius has obviously given his home life a bit more time than the anticipated musical itself. He paints a picture for us. Or maybe sculpts?
PABLO VS WEST
For whatever genre Kanye describes this album as, the title, TLOP, refers to the great Pablo Picasso. For as hard as Mr. West thrives to be the one and only, he sure loves to reinvent himself into the legends, gods and criminals the world has had the opportunity to meet, converse, and sometimes hate. For similarities like their wives striking resemblance, expressing their art no matter what the world thinks, and innovations that shook the way we thought of themselves, we we can try to compare them until Pablo turns in his grave. But oddly enough we can keep it at "why not?!" because the family of this cubic artist is thrilled to have Kanye's new album, title, and life cherished of their beloved family member.
HIS NEVER ENDING STORY
In non-Yeezus-believer terms, Kanye West invented Kanye West. Being the only person that can pull off Kanye West, the past couple weeks of thriving appearances, references, debates and own creations screams nothing other than...Kanye West. For how Twitter is always popping off, this iconic poet will always keep us on our toes. For now, we hail the crucified rapper in hopes he fixes his debt problems, but staying with this new and improved, cool dad style of music.
